Boston University’s Office of the University Registrar announced Oct. 6 that class registration  will open on Friday mornings instead of Sunday mornings starting for the Spring 2025 semester. Seniors will register first on Oct. 31, followed by juniors on Nov. 7, sophomores on Nov. 14 and freshmen on Nov. 21, according to the University Registrar website.  Graduate students will register Oct. 23-24 at 7:15 a.m. Entering undergraduates, including first-years and transfers, will register on Dec. 2 at 8 a.m. Non-Degree students will register on Dec. 4 at 8 a.m.  Students are assigned specific time slots based on the last digit of their BUID number, with the first appointment beginning at 6:30 a.m. All students with class conflicts during their assigned registration time will receive a new appointment time.   The University Registrar wrote, in its Instagram announcement post, the updated schedule will allow students to access “additional resources,” such as advisors...

The City of Cambridge and Transition House held its annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month vigil outside Cambridge City Hall on Wednesday night to honor lives lost to domestic violence.  Along with the vigil, the Domestic and Gender Based Violence Prevention Initiative created ‘The Silent Witness Exhibit,’ a display of 11 red silhouettes representing each of the Massachusetts women who died from domestic violence in the past year. The exhibit will be presented in the City Hall for the rest of the month.  The vigil began with a live cello performance by Boston-based musician Cherry Kim. Local artist PHEEBZ created a painting during the vigil which will hang in City Hall through the month. Shameka Gregory, coordinator of the DGBVPI, said the 11 victims left behind 10 children. Boston University's Marsh Plaza transformed into a vigil honoring the Palestinian lives lost in the Israel-Hamas War Wednesday. The gathering included prayers, speeches and an open mic for attendees to share reflections in remembrance of Palestinian lives. A variety of BU student organizations hosted the event including the Palestine Student Association, Muslim Student Organization, Bangladeshi Student Association, South Asian Muslim Initiative, Arab Student Organization and North African Student Organization. In Fall 2026, Boston University’s College of Communication is introducing Branded Content, a five-year accelerated master's program incorporating elements of advertising, public relations and film and television. The program will teach students how to develop marketing material produced for brands with a focus on short-form video content, COM Director of Graduate Affairs Kayla Ring wrote in an email to The Daily Free Press. COM professors Maura Smith and Amy Shanler, along with others, created the concept around three to four years ago when discussing film and PR students' worries in the job market.  Smith, a master lecturer in the Film and TV Department, said the program will help students diversify their market outreach.  “[In] advertising, PR, you have to understand how to tell a story visually,” Smith said. “And for the film students, you have to understand what it is that [companies] are actually wanting.”  Since the program combines the three fields...
