In a staff edit from Nov. 2, titled “Bearing the Cross,” the opinion editor unintentionally did not attribute the background information cited in the first three paragraphs. The opinion editor reviews many publications and draws upon many sources when developing the views that we express in our editorial. Unfortunately, in this case, the editor was negligent in removing source material and attributing material she intended to have as attributed. We have concluded that it was not the editor’s intention to misrepresent the authorship of paragraphs one through three. We understand that this negligence amounts to plagiarism and is not in keeping with our editorial standards.
