Poised for stardom, Driveblind released its self-titled debut album after four years of touring behind some of today’s strongest rock acts. Coming at you from Scotland via Los Angeles, Driveblind alternates between heavy jams and softer rock ballads, united by lead vocalist Terry McDermot. Driveblind cites The Who, The Beatles, and The Band as musical heroes, although the sextet produces a more contemporary, sometimes U2-esque sound. The band enters alt-country territory on the opening track “Silhouette” and the vibe keeps popping up throughout the album. Ultimately, Driveblind is strongest when it sticks to its rock roots and uses the vocal talents of multiple members, harmonizing on tracks like “Raised at Midnight” (the album’s strongest) and “The Fool Rides Again”. Though the band hasn’t found a cohesive sound on this record, some catchy tunes and great guitar make Driveblind a decent debut. Grade: B
