In a news story Oct. 1 (‘State nixes traffic cops’ p. 1), it was incorrectly stated due to a reporting error that Gov. Deval Patrick eliminated funding for local police traffic details in his latest budget request. In fact, his revised regulations require civilian flaggers at construction sites on roads with speed limits under 45 miles per hour, unless cities and towns opt to retain police details.
The article also incorrectly stated that the state estimates it spends $19 million on police details. In fact, it estimates spending $25 million.
