Boston University women’s golf senior Adela Cejnarova had a record-breaking performance this past weekend at the 2017 Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship.
Cejnarova finished the weekend with a score of 222, which gave her a three-shot victory. This was the third consecutive year that the Prague native has won the Patriot League individual title, marking the first male or female golfer in conference history to win three straight titles.
Along with her third-straight victory, Cejnarova now has possession of the three best scores in Patriot League Championship history. In 2015, she also shot a 222 and last year she set a record with a score of 219.
Two of her teammates also had great performances at the tournament. Junior Phyllis Tang finished second overall, just three strokes back of Cejnarova, and sophomore Megan Carter finished third overall with a 227.
While Cejnarova took home the individual title, her team fell just short of its second Patriot League championship in the last three years. The Terriers finished in second place, three strokes back of winner the University of Richmond. They had a two-shot lead entering the tournament’s final day, but ended up falling short.
Men’s tennis falls in Patriot League semifinals
The Boston University men’s tennis team fell short in its attempt to reach its first ever Patriot League final appearance. The No. 4-seeded Terriers faced off against the conference’s defending champion and No. 1 seed United States Military Academy, falling 4-2.
Army jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after dominating the first two doubles matches and the first singles match. However, BU bounced back, with freshman J.P. Avila and senior Lucas Bombonatti winning their respective singles matches 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-4 to even up the match at 2-2.
Army regained the lead for good when 2016 Patriot League Rookie of the Year David Mitchell defeated senior Jake De Vries 6-2, 6-3, and the Black Knights eventually finished off BU by winning the final singles match.
Track and field competes at two tournaments
The Boston University men’s and women’s track teams competed at the Morgan State Legacy Track & Field Meet in Baltimore, Maryland and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sean Collier Invite this past weekend.
The women’s side had great performances at both tournaments. The 4×100-meter relay team finished second with a time of 46.38 at Morgan State. Senior Toria Levy, who was part of the relay, also finished second in the 400-meter dash at 56.43.
At the Sean Collier Invite, sophomore Courtney Breiner won the 1500-meter at 4:38.74.
