Movie Mondays: “Practical Magic”
Monday, Oct. 21 from 3-5 p.m.; Brighton Branch of the Boston Public Library, 40 Academy Hill Road, Brighton
The Brighton Branch of the Boston Public Library is hosting a free screening of “Practical Magic,” a 1998 movie starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Set in a contemporary New England town, the film follows two sisters from a family of witches as they try to break a family curse. No registration is required, and walk-ins are welcome.

Doggone Halloween Parade
Saturday, Oct. 26 from noon to 3 p.m.; Downtown Crossing, 1 Summer St., Boston
Head to Downtown Crossing for a Halloween costume parade of dogs, complete with a dog-themed vendor village, face painting and free treats. Competition categories include best costume, cutest costume, scariest costume, best dog and human duo and best dog and child duo. Admission for this event is free.

16th Annual Boston Book Festival
Friday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Copley Square, Boston
The Boston Book Festival is an annual celebration of literature filled with free events for the public. This year’s festival features more than 60 presentations and 200 authors spread across Copley Square at locations including the Boston Public Library, Old South Church and Trinity Church. The festival begins with New York Times best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell speaking at the Back Bay Events Center on Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Boston Ballet Presents Fall Experience
Thursday through Sunday from Oct. 24 to Nov. 3 at varying times; Citizens Opera House, 539 Washington St., Boston
Boston Ballet presents its seasonal program, Fall Experience, with Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen. Three of the four ballet works in the show are choreographed by women, one of them Crystal Pite, a well-known choreographer in the world of ballet. Tickets start at $25.
