Ten tunes to run to

Whether you’re running the marathon, cheering from the sidelines, or filling up on hot dogs and PBR in some random brownstone on Beacon, there’s one thing Marathon Monday would not be complete without: a rockin’ soundtrack. From the early morning warm-ups (and pre-games) to the post-race wind-downs, here are a few songs to help pump you up and get you through the race.

‘Tell Me When To Go’ by E-40 & Keak Da Sneak ‘-‘- This song will get you hopped up and hyphy and ready to start the marathon on the right foot (pun unfortunately intended).’ Aside from the awesome beat, the title fits perfectly alongside an image of buff spandex-clad runners standing at the starting line just waiting to go. Stunner shades, anyone?

‘Run It’ by Chris Brown ‘-‘- Although we do not endorse Chris Brown’s recent behavior, it is impossible to deny this song a spot on the marathon playlist.

‘Physical’ by The Glimmers ‘-‘- An edgier cover of the Olivia Newton John original, this song will have your body talking the entire day long. And it makes for a fun glam addition to the rest of the hip-hop and rock you’ll be hearing all day long.

‘Eye of the Tiger’ by Survivor ‘-‘- No comment . . . except for the fact that this song is purely awesome. And for the four minutes and six seconds that it’s playing, I am convinced I can run the entire race.

‘Run’ by Ignite ‘-‘- ‘Run, run, run . . . keep on beatin’ them down,’ starts off the song. I can’t speak for everyone, but if you’re trying to win a race, these lyrics and hard rock melodies will definitely get you far.

‘Run’ by Ghostface Killah & Jadakiss (remix by Ratatat) ‘-‘- Besides being one of my favorite remixes, it is also remixed by some of my favorite remixers (who just happen to be playing at the House of Blues on the night of Marathon Monday). If you’re not too worn out from the day (or experiencing a night hangover from day drinking) this show is bound to be a good one.

‘The Distance’ by Cake ‘-‘- Not the most upbeat of Cake’s tunes, but definitely fitting for a day of running. How much more motivation do you need for a race after hearing the lyrics ‘he’s going the distance, he’s going for speed’? And if you’re not running the race, it’s a great song to wind down with at the end of the day.

‘Run Away’ by Real McCoy ‘-‘- It’s not a playlist unless there’s a ’90s dance hit on it, and this one just happens to be one of the best.’ Throw on this gem at a rooftop party and see if anyone complains . . . and then if they do, you should probably leave anyway.

‘Let’s Run’ by Le Tigre ‘-‘- Fast paced and electro-infused, this track will help all those runners and all those partiers get through that final stretch.

‘Born To Run’ by Bruce Springsteen ‘-‘- The sun is setting, the runners are moseying home and a tiring day of cheering ends with one last heartfelt sing-a-long with all of your friends, what better choice? Follow up with a heaping plate of nachos at Sunset and falling asleep on the couch while watching ‘The Goonies,’ and you’re bound to be saying ‘Marathon Monday is better than Christmas.’
