Pre-trial delay postpones court visit to Loretto Hall

Loretto Hall will not be visited by court officials today, following pre-trial delays which have pushed the inspection forward to an unspecified date.

Residents of the second floor and basement were originally asked to leave the building from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in order for jurors to visit the scene of an alleged September 1999 rape. The trial was originally slated to begin this week, but is now scheduled to start on Jan. 5, according to Boston University spokesman Colin Riley.

Riley would not speculate as to when jurors will visit the residence hall, but did say the University would comply with the court’s request whenever it asks to see the building. This weekend, the current occupants of the room where the rape allegedly occurred were moved to the Howard Johnson Hotel so the alleged victim could visit the scene with attorneys.

Loretto residents will be allowed regular access to the building without restriction today, Riley said.
