Morris named Scholar-Athlete

Boston University men’s basketball senior guard Tyler Morris was one of 10 men in the nation to be named to the I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team yesterday. Morris, who is a fifth-year senior in the School of Management, earned a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. He was named to his second All-America East Academic team at the end of the regular season.

In order to be named to the I-AAA Scholar-Athlete team, nominees must maintain a minimum 3.20 GPA while playing as either a starter or an important reserve on their team. Nominees must also complete at least three semesters at their nominated institution and participate in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.

Morris’s career as a Terrier was riddled with injury. Forced to redshirt his freshman year because of an ankle injury, Morris rebounded with an exceptional rookie season, earning a spot on the All-Conference Second Team and America East Rookie of the Year honors.

Injuries struck again during his sophomore campaign when Morris was forced to miss 12 games. Halfway through his junior year, Morris tore his ACL during practice, missing the team’s remaining 18 games.

As a senior, Morris served as a team captain and had his strongest season since his freshman year. He averaged 10.3 points per game after tallying 21 points in the season opener at Iona. In the opening round of the College Basketball Invitational against Oregon State, Morris scored 18 points and registered five assists en route to a 96-78 victory. Then, in the Terriers’ first-ever home postseason game, Morris tied a school record with eight steals against Morehead State, six of which came in the first half.

Morris will graduate from SMG with a degree in business administration and management.
