ToonTown Rewritten: A decade long love letter to determination and your childhood

By Michelle Grullon October 29, 2023
If you grew up with a computer at home, you’ve likely played a game or two online. Many people may share the same memory of rushing to your computer after a long day of school and going on a number of sites like Club Penguin or Movie Star Planet. But today, most of those sites are dormant.

Where are the lesbians?

By Kyla Smith October 29, 2023
There are a limited number of lesbian novels depicting young people which are not entirely about coming out, dating games or involving some supernatural, fantasy element — especially ones that have come out in the last 10 years.

Maude Latour: a pop breakout star

By Layne Sheplee October 29, 2023
Maude Latour may not be the sun, but she is my rising star. The 24-year-old emerging singer-songwriter makes use of consistently catchy pop songs and a dynamic stage presence to path her way to fame — and has quickly integrated herself into being one of my favorite artists.

Concerned CGS student | Doctor’s Orders

By Luc Ljoka October 29, 2023
Dear Doctors, I am a freshman in the College of General Studies (CGS) and I’ve been getting made fun of a lot by other BU students. What can I do to not take it personally?

There is no real way to “look gay”

By Lea Rivel October 26, 2023
Media has often shown society that the way to show that you’re a queer woman (whether that be lesbian, bisexual, pansexual or any other label), is to dress more masculine, carry yourself a certain way or overtly wear rainbow colors. Because of this, people often have a narrow perspective of how we look and dress.

Surviving Sunday in Salem: Prepare for disappointment

By Gabriella Di Dea, Lifestyle Editor October 26, 2023
It’s officially Spooky Season. What better way to spend it than in the spookiest place of all, Salem? Sunday is definitely a busier day to visit Salem, but nevertheless, I grabbed a good friend, bought a $10 commuter rail ticket, and was on my way.

The reusable water bottle obsession – how many are too many?

By Samantha Marshall October 25, 2023
The more I thought about my collection of water bottles, the more I realized the collection of each bottle had very little to do with an effort to combat single use plastic, and had more to do with the desire I have to keep up with current trends.

My take on Stage Troupe’s dazzling ‘Murder on the Orient Express’

By Ricardo Pons October 25, 2023
I love the original novel, which has been clear to me since I first read it, but much praise has been directed toward its intricate storyline and fascinating characters. Therefore, focusing on the factors largely controlled by the members of the BU Stage Troupe is the best course of action.

My home is Dunkin’ | Things I’ve Learned From Strangers

By Lili Culhane October 25, 2023
The pieces of Dunkin’ that out-of-towners might think help it maintain its popularity are often misinformed hypotheses. It is not the intense sugar-rush that their syrups provide, nor is it the way they keep us on our toes as we gamble whether the first sip will be sweet, sweet paradise or like licking the butt of a cigarette. What is the home that your local Dunkin’ makes for you?

I like to buy my stories secondhand

By Kal Hawley October 25, 2023
People used to talk a lot about how much they hated getting hand-me-downs. As the youngest sibling, I had a plethora of clothing that was older than me filling up my closet. But nowadays, I seek out hand-me-down clothing, whether that’s from my family, my friends or local thrift stores. I get so much more enjoyment out of the history (or potential history) behind the pieces than simply buying a shirt from a department store.

A love letter to fall | Maia’s Inner Monologue

By Maia Penzer October 24, 2023
It's that time of the year again — fall is here, and I just have to gush about my absolute favorite season. When the leaves turn red and orange and the air becomes crisper, my heart feels lighter, and my sweaters get heavier.

Hallow-wood: The Best Celebrity Halloween Costumes Over The Years

By Andrew DiBiasio, Managing Co-Editor October 24, 2023
Stuck in a TikTok rut this morning, I scrolled past a girl in a tin foil dress dressed as a Chipotle burrito. Students all across the country are getting creative, but can they beat the celebrities and their iconic renditions? I’m here to feature 10 that I think could give everyone a run for their money — or in this case, candy.
