Carney Hospital in Dorchester closed its doors for the final time on Aug. 31 after its owner, Steward Health Care, filed for bankruptcy in May. Steward announced in late July that the for-profit healthcare network will close two hospitals: Carney Hospital and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer.

Health care workers and community members will hold a rally outside of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center on Monday as closures threaten Massachusetts hospitals amidst the ongoing Steward healthcare crisis.

Boston City Council heard from health experts and employees of Steward Health Care in a hearing on Thursday, during which Steward was criticized for disregarding patient and staff needs and potential hospital closures. Solutions were few due to a lack of information provided by Steward.
