I, myself, an educated man – not a “middle-of-the-road-feminist” (whatever that means), would personally like to thank you Eliot for making all men look like asses in a campus-wide publication. It is your ignorance, unfounded claims, and broad generalizations that propagate sexism and truly show how distorted males really are when it comes to gender relations.

I believe you show your ignorance the best in your examples of women ignoring their “equal responsibilities.” I would love to see a logical connection made between funding a women’s sport team and a man buying a drink for a woman at a bar. Or perhaps having a woman president and giving a female your seat on the T. If you educated yourself on the study of women you would understand that it is wrong to lump together something as important as having a woman president with a guy buying a girl a drink. It would be absurd to think that your examples are equal.

So let me give you a few examples to consider in response to you line of reasoning regarding equal responsibilities. Women want to be promoted in the workplace, but cannot due to the glass ceiling. Women want to have a successful career, but cannot due to having a child and raising. it. Women want to believe they can walk down a street at night without fear, but cannot due to the constant threat of rape or assault. Women want to wear what they want, but cannot due to sexist men who think it is their inherent right to make it known that the way the woman is dressed turns them on.

I offer the question, how many men have gotten to stay in college after committing sexual assault on women because they are a star athlete? You prove that your ideas of equality are skewed. Under your reasoning, if you take a girl out to dinner then she has to sleep with you, correct? I mean, it’s only fair right? You make it obvious that more men must become educated on the issues of sexism instead of making it the norm. Your comments illustrate misconceptions that have been held by men for decades. Males like myself who choose not to perpetuate the oppression and degradation of women take offense to your sexism and ask you think about your logic before you demean females.
