Stop complaining! If there is one thing I ask from Santa this year, it’s to not hear anymore Jewish kids complain about how left out they feel at Christmas. My mom’s Catholic and my dad is Jewish, and I was raised Catholic. So I see both ends. And I have a lot of Jewish friends, but I don’t hear any of them complain about being left out. Maybe I should be complaining. Have you been to GSU lately? There’s a big Menorah there for the Jewish kids, but no Christmas tree for us Christians; I need a tissue to wipe my tears. But seriously, I’m not complaining because there is one of each in my house and in this wonderful country I live in, it’s everyone’s right to express their religious ideals peacefully. Don’t cry that some of us do it in different ways and in stronger numbers. The article about Christmas talked about the shift from religious ideals to the commercialization of Christmas. Well, instead you would rather turn it into a popularity race? “Stop these Christians with their Christmas trees and their lights, they seem to be gaining on us.” I know…perhaps it is a Palestinian plot to allienate the Jewish population in America. Or maybe Osama is behind it! Enough! I will agree, however, that Christmas is more commercialized than it should be. And I appreciate your comparison to the American flag, because as much as you want to focus on how we as Christians do things, it’s that flag that lets us do our thing and you yours. I for one am content with celebrating Christmas with my tree, lights, and gifts and I don’t care how anyone else celebrates it if at all because it’s their right to do so. And for those Jewish kids who feel left out, don’t. I’m asking Santa to give you a dose of reality and merry sleigh ride that beings you back to your senses. It’s Christmas, it’s Chanuka, it’s Kwanza. It’s whatever you want to call it. Celebrate it, enjoy it, and let other people do it their way. Have a nice…”holiday.” Josh Eskow Cas 05′ jeskow19@bu.edu
