While on tour in Los Angeles, Aidan Close and his agent took the opportunity to meet and talk with a casting director. Within the 15 minutes it took him to get home from the meeting, he got an email from his agent.
Close, a Boston University alum who at the time was playing Scorpius Malfoy in the North American tour of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” was offered the chance to continue playing Scorpius on Broadway.
I guess I’ve won the lottery if I’m anything like that — she is undeniably epic. She’s a hard worker with a great sense of humor. She’s loving, kind and has inspired me to become the woman that I am today.
The documentary reminds us that this show was not just about comedy. It was about relationships, the memories and the beautifully chaotic love that makes a family feel real.
As soon as the curtains pulled back and the set pieces rolled in, I was amazed by the level of detail that went into the set. The smoky cigarettes that nearly every performer totes around the stage add another layer of sensory detail that brings you physically into the world the show is recreating.
As opening night ended and the cast finished their bows, a photographer climbed one of the Hogwarts staircases while it slid on stage. The cast of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” all get into poses and hundreds of audience members turn on their phone flashlights.
My expectations for the film were high, as were my standards. While excited, I was unsure what to expect. The verdict is in: I absolutely love the movie “Wicked.”
“That feels really nice to be acknowledged and that people noticed my work and that I'm already like a valued member of the community,” said CAS sophomore Lily Hall.
Captioning technology, as well as interpreters, should be available for every single performance on Broadway and in theaters around the world. There is no excuse as to why translators should not be hired for all performances. It is completely unfair to deny show dates and shows to attend.
Broadway is denying opportunities to those who devote their entire lives to the performing arts by hiring social media influencers who are already very well-known — and it has begun to take away the allure of live theater
Theater performances are meant to provide audiences with enjoyment and escape, while also bringing to light universal themes that connect us all — the general public shouldn't have to be concerned about antisemitic protests while attending Broadway shows.
We must not only reduce the stigma around the art of performing, but also open a discussion about the adverse effects that descend from harmful labels placed on those in the industry.
