After experiencing the museum, Montgomery felt different. My class was silent. Nobody cared to crack any jokes. The air even started to smell different — like rotting garbage, reminiscent of the Southern Magnolia that Billie Holiday sung about decades prior.
At its core, this shift isn’t about literature — it’s about looking like a reader. Books have become an accessory, a personality trait and a status symbol. As a result, people are reading more visibly than ever. The joy of getting lost in a story, of struggling with complex ideas and of truly reading seems to be fading.
We instead must find authenticity in our narratives, instead of scraping for diversity that never even existed. Maybe then — finally — we can believe equality is more than a political agenda.
BU India Club hosted the Fall Show on Oct. 26 in the Tsai Performance Center. The event showcased performances from several of BU’s Indian dance teams and a cappella team. The event was the groups’ first opportunity to perform their competition sets in front of an audience.

Seeing posts about European travel and its commodification made me realize that “Euro summer” is about more than just vacationing. On Nov. 7, BU Hawaiian Cultural Association took us all on a trip to the tropics of Hawaii. After scanning my ID and stepping through the gates of Warren Dining hall, I was given a lei with flowers of vibrant blue, and ready for my challenge at hand.
