When it comes to memories, there’s value that lies even in the most painful ones. Altogether, this emphasizes the real power of human connection in the face of both love and loss.
Enter the half-joke, half-serious concept of “silver springing” someone. It’s the idea that you and all the love you bring with you are unforgettable — like a ghost that will eternally haunt them.
However, I’ve grown to lean on my ability to sit down and do the work, and that’s the key — to make life feel a little easier, you have to build trust with yourself through habits, hobbies and moments that make you feel safe and loved.
I’ve learned that it’s okay not to have all the answers, and it’s okay to speak up even if it feels risky. Following your heart is important, even when it doesn’t make sense. You can’t control the future, so focus on the present and speak up when you feel compelled to do so.
Unrequited love is a painful yet universal experience caused by strong feelings for someone who does not or cannot reciprocate, such as a close friend who only sees your relationship as platonic. This type of feeling is often romanticized due to its idealized portrayal in the media — I myself am guilty of finding it so romantic when it comes to Mr. Darcy’s initial one-sided love for Elizabeth in Jane Austen’s novel “Pride and Prejudice.”
Journaling became an activity where I could process my feelings without worrying about being misunderstood or judged. While at first it was a way to express my emotions freely, it evolved into something much more. My journals have become an archive of my life — a way to preserve the memories that shape who I am. They allow me to capture the details of each day in a way that no photograph ever could.
