A Spotify account plays “The Fate of Ophelia,” the highest streamed track off of Taylor Swift’s new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” In an era where streaming on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music dominate, the vinyl record industry has needed to get creative.

Massachusetts record stores, music fans embrace rise of record variants — but they come at a cost

In an era where streaming dominates, vinyl has taken on a new life.  From multi-colored vinyl pressings to alternate covers and expanded tracklists, artists and labels are now leaning into collector culture as a deliberate sales strategy.
The fine line between passionate fan and parasocial policing

The fine line between passionate fan and parasocial policing

Fans and critics alike have expressed mixed feelings about Taylor Swift’s much-awaited 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” Some praise the album’s bold, innuendo-filled hits, while others miss the intimate storytelling of earlier eras. But amid the reviews and rankings, an uglier conversation has bubbled up online, and it’s one that says more about us as fans than about the music itself.
REVIEW: ‘Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl’ is a dazzling yet dizzying addition to Swift’s body of work

REVIEW: ‘Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl’ is a dazzling yet dizzying addition to Swift’s body of work

As a Swiftie, of course, I ran to her website to try and score tickets for this experience. I expected AMC to have already been sold out. But after nearly two hours in the queue, my friends and I were able to get through — which brought me to the 12 p.m. showing of “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.”

With ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ Taylor Swift’s music is danceable again

By Ava Wiseley, Contributing Writer October 5, 2025
Back in August, Taylor Swift joined her then-boyfriend — now-fiancé — Travis Kelce on his New Heights podcast to announce her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” The record hit streaming services and store shelves on Friday. While not a particularly innovative or poetic work in the singer’s catalogue, “The Life of a Showgirl” is an improvement on her recent pop sound. And Swift’s music is danceable again.

Next week, I’ll officially be a month into my junior year, and I’m feeling bittersweet about it. I moved into an apartment for the first time, so that nine-month-long summer camp vibe from my old...

Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show: Kendrick Lamar brought the bars, but was it a touchdown performance?

By Samantha Genzer, Managing Co-Editor February 10, 2025
The production was sleek, the performances were sharp and the creativity was undeniable. But when you stack it against Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, and Shakira-level halftime shows, it lacked that extra layer of spectacle that makes a Super Bowl performance legendary. Still, Lamar brought his signature storytelling, intricate visuals and undeniable talent to the biggest stage in the world, creating a show that was uniquely his.

Ask Abby (Or Analise): If you like it, then should you put a promise ring on it?

By Analise Bruno January 21, 2025
Well, Beyoncé said it best — if you like it, then you should probably put a ring on it. You know, just in case somebody else does.  “Single Ladies” perhaps takes a bit too literal of an approach to the message here, but you get the idea: don’t take for granted what’s right in front of your face. And when it comes to relationships, sometimes the solution to that thing is a ring — a promise ring, to be exact.

Songs for situationships and what-ifs | Liv Listens

By Olivia Stapleton November 12, 2024
As an impatient overthinker, I’m not capable of anything remotely casual in a relationship. I don’t want to jinx my current relationship, but at the very least, I hope I never have to go through another “talking stage” again.

Songs for new adventures and missing home | Liv Listens

By Olivia Stapleton October 8, 2024
Last week, one of my friends reached out to me about her nerves surrounding going abroad next semester. She’s excited and knows it is the right decision for her, but she’s also nervous about being away for so long.  I’ve been thinking a lot about studying abroad in the future, too. Leaving the country can evoke competing emotions — anticipation for a new adventure, but also a fear of the unknown. Not to mention, it can be scary leaving a lot of relationships back in Boston.

Curing fall feels and friend troubles | Liv Listens

By Olivia Stapleton October 3, 2024
Fighting with a friend might be one of the worst feelings. Even if it's not a full-blown argument and things are just a little off, it doesn't negate the fact that there are people in our lives that we feel comfortable confiding in. Being unable to talk to them can feel isolating. I usually turn to sad music when I feel alone, but I will resist the urge to only recommend sad songs for this occasion — warm and cozy songs, artists and albums can do the trick, too.

My cloudy day soundtrack | Liv Listens

By Olivia Stapleton September 24, 2024
For the last edition of Liv Listens, I wrote about songs I listen to when I go for walks to clear my head. This week, I’ve been cooped up in my dorm, trying to get homework done while ignoring how sluggish the cloudy weather has been making me feel.  In weeks like this, I find myself in two moods. The first is a mood in which I desperately want to succumb to the gloomy weather and nap all day. When I feel like this, I listen to slow music, read leisurely, watch “Twilight” and procrastinate doing my work.
