Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees is the best hitter in the American League. Yet, Cal Raleigh, who Seattle Mariners fans lovingly call “Big Dumper,” is more valuable — and the most deserving of the league’s most prestigious award for a position player.
I only got into hockey when I arrived at Boston University and realized there was no collegiate baseball or football — the only two sports I actually paid attention to.
There is a special kind of vitriol that hockey fans have for draft picks who refuse to sign with their team. In a sport with a very stoic, selfless culture, it seems arrogant for a player to risk the beginning of his career for a better option than the one in which he had no say.
It has now been three weeks since the 2024 MLB campaign started, and there’s been no shortage of storylines from the diamond.
Here are four early reactions — or overreactions — from the early action on the young MLB season.
Last week, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres kicked off the 2024 MLB season with the annual Seoul Series, a two-game series that should have been a time to celebrate a new season. Instead, the series was overtaken by the news of the firing of Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara.
The 2024-2025 MLB season kicks off with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres squaring off in the first-ever MLB Seoul Series.
While the other 28 MLB teams won’t start their regular season until next week, the two-game series between NL West rivals will be a sign of things to come ahead of a new baseball season.
